It commences when the simcard is inserted into the phone in Japan.

No. This is a fixed data plan (e.g., 10GB or 20GB total). You can use the data as you wish without a daily cap. Once the total data is used, speed reduces to 256kbps unlimited.
▶Q: How do I check my data usage?
We will send you an email after we posted the simcard, it will include a secure data checking website for you to check data usage.
▶Q: Can I make phone calls with this simcard?
This is a data-only simcard and does not include a phone number for traditional mobile calls or SMS. However, we recommend using WhatsApp, LINE, or FaceTime to text or make voice and video calls. You can call travel companions, local friends, or family back in Australia for free using your data, provided the other person has the same app installed.
